Getting Started with Google and Our G+ Community OLD

Join Write Out’s G+ Community.

Here’s how …

One of the social tools we’ll use in Write Out is our Google + Community. You’ll need a Google account to access it. In addition to proving helpful in Write Out, your Google account will give you access to useful tools like Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, and more.

Sign up for a Google Account

If you have a Gmail address, you already have a Google account and you can move on to getting started with Google +, the social network community we’ll use for sharing and discussion during Write Out. If you’ve not used Gmail or other Google Apps, you’ll need to create a Google account. Visit Google’s new accounts page to register for an account.  Choose a strong password that is memorable to you but difficult for others to guess. You might also like to read the terms of service and privacy policy related to Google accounts which have recently been updated. For additional support, WikiHow has this detailed, step-by-step guide that will walk you through Google Account creation.

Getting started with Google +

To have access to all the daily sharing and chatter in Write Out, you’ll need a Google + account. By joining Google’s social network, you’ll be able to access Write Out’s Google + Community and also have the opportunity to create or sit in on Google Hangouts. Check Google+ Help Center with questions about how this works.

Google+ Communities

Google + communities are great places to share content, have discussion and make connections. This beginner’s guide from Ryan Lytle at Mashable will help you understand the basics of how Google + Communities work.

Our Write Out Community

The Write Out G+ community will buzz with participant chatter daily. Post questions, create quick progress updates and share interesting web content. Check in often to see what everyone is up to. Check out the community here and you’ll see the connections and interactions happening there. When you’re ready to share, question and discuss, click join. We’ll see you there!

Turning Notifications On and Off

While participating in Write Out, you may not want to receive a massive number of email notifications. If that is the case for you, be sure to turn off the notifications to avoid receiving an email notification each time someone contributes to the community.
