TEACHING WITH HISTORIC PLACES
Teaching with Historic Places (TwHP) uses historic places in National Parks and in the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places to enliven history, social studies, geography, civics, and other subjects. TwHP has created a variety of products and activities that help teachers bring historic places into the classroom.

NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES
The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation’s historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America’s historic and archeological resources.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS – ORAL HISTORY ARCHIVES
The NPS Oral History Collection includes over 1,100 interviews with current and former NPS staff, their families, and affiliated individuals. The collection includes a variety of projects conducted from 1959 to today. The interviews describe people, parks, events, actions, and management decisions made from the establishment of the NPS in 1916 through to current events. Most interviews have associated correspondence and research notes.

NPS UNIFORM COLLECTION
The NPS History Collection includes NPS uniforms and accessories from the 1920s through today. It also includes uniforms from the United States Park Police, which functions as a unit of the NPS with jurisdiction in all federal parks.

OUTSIDE SCIENCE (IN PARKS)
The Outside Science (inside parks) series shares stories of crucial, creative science. Each episode, produced in collaboration with Colorado State University, highlights the many ways young people are getting involved in science in parks. Part citizen science, part education, these videos cover topics such as sea turtles and light pollution, toxic algal blooms, and mercury levels in dragonfly larvae. Check out an episode below.
